Developer insights: median developer salaries 2022 by Destatis

Differences between women and men persist, and the median salaries have not seen a strong rise.

Destatis, the German Federal Authority for Statistics, has published the 2022 numbers for median developer salaries across all Germany.

The data provider distinguishes between men and women, yet leaves non-binary people out of the calculation. For every area, and overall salary is given across all genders.

For larger fields, Destatis separates the salaries into Professional, Specialist and Expert categories. Looking at the information, it looks like Specialist is Mid-Level and Expert Mid-Level to Senior.

As previously seen, the median salaries for developers center around 70,000-75,000 €. Despite the immense upturns since 2020/21 and high demand, the median salaries haven’t moved much.

In Destatis’ overview, the median salary for all of “informatics” is even indicated to be 60,000 €:

Computer Science Median Salaries:

  • Men 5,073 €
  • Women 4,806 €
  • Overall 5,038 €
