Developer insights: median developer salaries 2022 by Federal Agency for Employment Germany

15.19% gender pay gap in 2018, 13.00% gender pay gap in 2022 for employed software developers in Germany! The newest official monthly salary numbers from the Federal Agency for Employment are out and they tell an interesting story (exact numbers below):

Rising salaries

All salaries have been rising in the last years. The median software developer salary has risen by 11.7% since 2018. This is salary growth that most professions can only dream about.

The big picture

The official numbers — and bear in mind these are the data that are fed into the system by all employers in Germany — do not correspond fully with the market data we see (there, 70k to 75k is the median, not 66k).

This could be due to part-time work, working student contracts and the like. Bonuses might also come into play.

The software development category is already quite narrow per definition and does exclude jobs that do not fall into this category. That being said, all seniorities are subsumed here.
