Developer insights: software development salaries in Germany 2020–21

What do software developers earn in Germany? Data from surveys and the Federal Agency for Employment.

Salary data for developers in Germany is available via several means. Most often, talent agencies conduct regular analyses and surveys to determine the median or average salary. In these insights, we tend to find salaries split up by the respective seniority.

Data from software developer surveys with self-disclosure

In a recent meta analysis of several of these published studies, I found the following data:
Range of median salary — ranging from 62,000 to 79,750 annual
Range of median management salary — ranging from 78,000 to 92,000 annual

This translates to a range of 5,166 to 7,666 € monthly.

Broken down by Seniority, we find the following numbers:

Junior: 45,000 to 62,000 € per year (3,750 to 5,166 € per month)

Mid: 50,000 to 75,000 € per year (4,166 to 6,250 € per month)

Senior: 65,000 to 85,000 € per year (5,416 to 7,083 € per month)

Lead: 90,000 to 110,000 € per year (7,500 to 9,250 € per month)
