IT Insights: where are the IT experts in Germany? — 2023 numbers

IT as a field continues to grow the number of jobs, alongside the (slight) overall growth of jobs in Germany. The increase is more evenly spread out than the developer subset alone.

In a previous analysis we looked at the developer numbers in detail. In this overview, we will take a brief dip into the IT experts category as a whole.

This encompasses developers, sysadmins, IT sales, IT consulting and generic informatics folks.

Where do the numbers come from?

The numbers come from the Federal Agency for Employment, Germany’s bureau for all employment-related topics. The authority collects data from employers about the positions on their staffing lists and how they are categorized.

The recorded cut-off date is 30th June of the respective year, which means we know very well about the status quo of mid-2023.

The dataset and categories

The dataset lists the location, subcategory, gender, experience level, citizenship status, age, work time (full-time/part-time) and qualification level. It also collects the number of jobseekers, which, at least for developers, are often negligible in the numbers.
