My criteria for a great workplace

What would it take to lure you away from your current job? If a company approached you and wanted your expertise for an open position what would entice you?
Looking around, it appears you would be asking for too much if you wanted:
💈 clear expectations and goals
🏁 a progression plan and outlook for your career
💚 empathy, understanding and investment into you from your manager
💬 respectful and ego-free communication
🧑⚖️ no judgement on you, your character traits and/or your appearance
🛹 a sound onboarding with buddyship, mentoring and decent documentation
Well… I certainly would expect that. And ask for more. These are no brainers.
My personal criteria for a workplace are:
1. psychological safety
2. psychological safety
3. psychological safety
4. remuneration
5. fairness
6. fair remuneration
7. maturity in the colleagues
I have experienced too much in my career to see it any other way.
I don’t care about fancy funding rounds, image, impressive brand names in the founders’ CVs, the company’s motto or any other hyped up thing.
I want basic human decency wrapped in a package of diverse perspectives and appreciation.
Psychological safety — for me — means:
- few or no microaggressions
- no subtle or overt bullying
- failure and learning culture
- respect
- transparency
- being taken seriously and listened to
- being “quirky” and being embraced for it
The good news is that we can make change — by impacting on our respective environments. But it won’t be an easy feat.
