Tips for good feedback

“tips for good feedback” in white, turquoise, yellow and light blue letters on a black-grey background, evoking the idea of an IDE.

Many people get feedback wrong. This doesn’t have to be! What to avoid:

❌ Feedback is NOT your personal opinion.
🧠 Don’t describe what you think the feedback receiver thinks. You can only describe their behavior, what you observed.
📦 Feedback without describing the impact on you or others feels a bit empty.
🎁 The clearer you can detail the recommendation you give, the more valuable your feedback will be perceived.

Feedback, moreover, is a two-way street!

👂 Listen to the feedback provider. Truly LISTEN.
🗣 Don’t argue against the feedback. These are your fears and insecurities speaking.
🌄 Let the feedback sink in and reflect on it.
💪 Assess what of the feedback you will implement and how.
❓ Ask the feedback provider for clarification or advice on the implementation, if necessary.
