IT insights: where are the women who are IT systems analysts, IT consultants and IT salespeople in Germany? — 2022
There is a strong lens on women in tech when it comes to developers. How do IT systems analysts, IT consultants and IT salespeople fare in Germany? See map below.
The overall number of women in these professions
As realized in the previous article, there are 218,600 salaried IT-SA/C/S in Germany according to the Federal Agency for Employment. 49,890 of those are women — that makes 22.8%. This number is absolutely pitiful on its own, yet in comparison to developers looks like a success story.
Why is that? Because among salaried developers, only 13.7% are women. And it doesn’t appear to be much better among the freelancers.
Deriving the overall number from estimations that about 10–15% of all specialists in IT are freelance, we can estimate that there are between 55,000 and 60,000 women who focus on analysing, consulting on and selling IT systems, software and adjacent items.
Unfortunately, the Federal Agency does not count non-binary specialists, so we need to make do with the binary split only.
